Durgapur is located in the district of Burdwan, in the state of West Bengal, India. It is one of the fastest growing industrial cities in the country, situated on the banks of the river Damodar. Its metamorphosis started with the commissioning of the Durgapur barrage in the early 1950s by the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). Durgapur was a dream child of the great visionary, our erstwhile Chief Minister of West Bengal Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy and is now both an industrial as well as an educational hub, that nurtures DSP and ASP of SAIL, Durgapur Cement, Alstom India, a number of other industries on the one hand and NIT Durgapur – a deemed university, several professional educational institutions as well as research establishments of the status of CMERI on the other.
